Michael Zorc is convinced that Marco Rose is the right head coach for Borussia Dortmund despite his recent struggles at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Rose and Gladbach slumped to a sixth straight defeat on Friday, as they lost 3-1 to FC Augsburg. The Foals have not won a game since it was announced that Rose would be joining Borussia Dortmund in the summer.

Gladbach’s woes, combined with Borussia Dortmund’s excellent run of form under Edin Terzic, has led some to wonder whether appointing Marco Rose was the right call. But sporting director Michael Zorc has backed the incoming BVB head coach. In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, Zorc said:

"“We are very convinced of this decision. We discussed everything very clearly with everyone involved. There was no disagreement whatsoever. We know that Marco Rose is a very good coach.”"

Marco Rose is set to join Borussia Dortmund on a three year contract in the summer, with BVB paying Gladbach five million euros for his signature. Edin Terzic is set to be a part of the 44 year old’s coaching staff, which will also include Alexander Zickler, René Maric and Patrick Eibenberger.

Michael Zorc also praised interim head coach Edin Terzic during the interview, and said that he has given the players the belief that they can win matches against big teams, even away from home. “The players have realised that they are also capable of delivering against the top teams, even away from home, if they follow Edin Terzic’s instructions on the pitch,” Zorc said.

Zorc also said that he has never seen a player like Erling Haaland, and added that Borussia Dortmund will try to keep him at the club for as long as possible.

"“I have not yet seen someone like him. We can look all over Europe. But we’ll be hard-pressed to find someone who can deliver such consistent performances at this age and be as effective as Erling. At 20, he has scored more goals in the Champions League than Ronaldo and Messi at the same age. That’s extraordinary.”“If he were to leave us somewhere at some point, only a handful of clubs would come into consideration. But we’ll try to keep him as long as possible for sporting reasons”"

Haaland has more than three years left on his current contract with Borussia Dortmund. But there is said to be a release clause in his contract which comes into effect at the end of next season.
