Borussia Dortmund will be without Raphael Guerreiro, Jadon Sancho and Mateu Morey for Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against FC Köln. While Marco Reus is a doubt for the game after picking up a painful knock against Hertha Berlin last weekend.
Raphael Guerreiro suffered a muscle injury during the DFB-Pokal quarterfinal against Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier this month and has missed the last three games as a result. The left-back has been named in the Portugal squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers. But Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc hinted during the press conference that he may have to withdraw from the squad.
The Black and Yellows will be bolstered by the return of Manuel Akanji, who has missed the last six games with a torn muscle fibre. Mats Hummels also looks set to shake off the knee injury he suffered against Hertha Berlin. He returned to team training on Wednesday and will be in the squad this weekend.
Edin Terzic also confirmed during the press conference that Marco Reus remains a doubt for the game against Köln, and a decision on whether he can play this weekend will be made on Friday. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, the Borussia Dortmund captain also missed Thursday’s training session.
The final international break of the season is due to begin next week, but it is still unclear which players will be going on international duty. Michael Zorc said that they will only have clarity by Saturday evening on which players will be allowed to travel.
Several games are due to be played in countries that are considered to be COVID-19 risk zones. Players who play in those countries will have to quarantine after returning to Germany, and so Borussia Dortmund have the option to prevent those players from going on international duty.
