Borussia Dortmund needed a 90th minute equaliser from Erling Haaland to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw away to FC Köln in the Bundesliga.

Looking to continue their fine run of form, Borussia Dortmund made two enforced changes to the side that beat Hertha Berlin last weekend. In came Thomas Meunier and Gio Reyna for the injured Mateu Morey and Marco Reus.

The Black and Yellows got off to the perfect start and took the lead early in the game, with Erling Haaland firing home the opener after just three minutes. The Norwegian international got on the end of Emre Can’s long ball, drove past Jorge Mere before finding the back of the net.

Köln responded well to going behind and looked more and more dangerous as the first half went on. They finally got their reward in the 35th minute when Jude Bellingham was adjudged to have handled Noah Katterbach’s shot. Ondrej Duda sent Marwin Hitz the wrong way to make it 1-1 from the spot.

The Billy Goats continued to dominate the game after the break, as Dortmund looked like a shadow of the team we have seen in recent weeks. Ismail Jakobs made it 2-1 for Köln with a strong finish after Thomas Meunier failed to clear a through ball and instead passed it into the path of the Köln winger.

Dortmund then began their search for an equaliser, and Erling Haaland hit the post with his glancing header from Meunier’s cross. The 20 year old then fizzed an effort just wide from the edge of the box, as the Black and Yellows started to get closer and closer.

The equaliser finally arrived in the 90th minute when Haaland turned home substitute Ansgar Knauff’s brilliant low cross to make it 2-2.

The goal ensured a share of the spoils, but it means that Borussia Dortmund are now four points behind fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt, who they play straight after the international break.
