Borussia Dortmund had to make do without a number of key players for Saturday’s 2-2 draw against FC Köln, including Marco Reus and Dan-Axel Zagadou. Edin Terzic gave an update on the injured duo after the game.
The Borussia Dortmund head coach gave Marco Reus the all-clear and said that he did not play against FC Köln because they did not want to take any risks with him, given his injury history. “Marco unfortunately was not able to train this week, it was too soon. It’s definitely nothing major. But with his injury history, we didn’t want to take any risks.”
Terzic also confirmed that Dan-Axel Zagadou felt his knee during training this week. This is a big worry for Borussia Dortmund, as the Frenchman spent several months on the sidelines last season due to two knee injuries. He was also only just making his return from a torn muscle fibre, which he suffered during the game against Mainz in January.
Terzic did not reveal how long Zagadou will be out for, but said that the defender will undergo examinations in the coming days. “Dan-Axel Zagadou felt his knee again in training, the previous injury has come back,” Terzic said. “We now have to wait for the examinations and monitor the situation.”
Borussia Dortmund were also without Jadon Sancho, Mateu Morey and Raphael Guerreiro on Saturday. Axel Witsel and Marcel Schmelzer also missed the game, but they are out with long term injuries. Edin Terzic will be hoping to have his injured players back in training as soon as possible, with the business end of the season fast approaching.
Borussia Dortmund are due to play seven games in April, including the two legs of their Champions League quarterfinal against Manchester City. The Black and Yellows also face crunch six-points against top four rivals Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga next month.
