Emre Can

Emre Can is the only Borussia Dortmund player in the Germany squad for their upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers. He will be looking to use this month’s international break to solidify his place in the Germany starting XI.

Germany head coach Joachim Löw all but confirmed last month that Can will be in the Germany squad for the Euros thanks to his versatility, mentality and aggression. But it still remains to be seen where he will fit into the starting XI.

Can has been used as a centre-back in his last few Germany appearances. But with Mats Hummels set to return to the Germany squad for the Euros, and Robin Koch also nearing full fitness, breaking into the starting XI may prove to be difficult for the 27 year old. He can also play in midfield or at right-back, but the competition for places is high in those positions as well.

And performances during the upcoming World Cup qualifiers will certainly be crucial for Can in his bid to stake a claim for a regular starting berth.
