Borussia Dortmund internationals: Hazard stars for Belgium, Haaland helps Norway beat Gibraltar

Three Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their countries on Wednesday as the European qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the U-21 Euros got underway.

Thorgan Hazard got a goal and an assist as he led Belgium to a come from behind 3-1 win over Wales. The world’s top ranked country fell behind early on, with Liverpool loanee Harry Wilson scoring the opener for Wales. But Hazard set up Kevin De Bruyne for the equaliser, before getting on the end of Thomas Meunier’s cross to give Belgium the lead. Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku then made it 3-1 in the second half from the penalty spot.

Meunier played 90 minutes for Belgium at right wing-back. While Hazard played as the left wing-back and was subbed off in the 84th minute.

Erling Haaland started for Norway as they began their bid to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 win over Gibraltar. The Borussia Dortmund striker wasn’t able to find the net on Wednesday evening, and was taken off at the hour mark. RB Leipzig striker Alexander Sörloth made it 1-0, before Kristian Thorstedt and Jonas Svensson scored to seal a straight-forward win for Norway.

Youssoufa Moukoko missed Germany’s European U-21 Championships opener against Hungary after suffering a knock during training. He is not expected to be out for long though. Germany U-21s head coach Stefan Kuntz said after the game that he expects the 16 year old to be available for Saturday’s game against the Netherlands.

Germany U-21s opened their campaign with a 3-0 win over hosts Hungary. Manchester City loanee Lukas Nmecha gave Germany the lead, before Wolfsburg’s Ridle Baku scored a brace to seal the three points.
