Three Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their national teams on Wednesday as the international break finally came to an end.

It was a night to forget for Emre Can and Germany, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to North Macedonia. The away side took the lead in first half stoppage time, as veteran striker Goran Pandev turned home the opener from close range.

Ilkay Gundogan equalised for Germany from the penalty spot in the second half, but Eljif Elmas’ 85th minute winner helped North Macedonia pull off the biggest upset of the qualifiers so far. The result leaves Germany in third place in their World Cup qualifying group, behind Armenia and North Macedonia.

Goals from Andreas Skov Olsen (x2), Joakim Maehle and Pierre-Emile Højbjerg sealed a vital win for the Danes. Delaney spent 77 minutes on the pitch before being taken off for a well deserved breather.

Jude Bellingham was once again an unused substitute as England earned a narrow 2-1 win over Poland. Goals from Harry Kane and Harry Maguire helped Gareth Southgate’s side maintain their 100% record in the qualifiers.
