Borussia Dortmund were handed a last-gasp 2-1 defeat by Manchester City in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The Premier League leaders took the lead through Kevin de Bruyne in the first half, before Marco Reus made it 1-1 for Borussia Dortmund with just six minutes to go. But Phil Foden made it 2-1 from close range in the 90th minute to give City the win.

Borussia Dortmund put in a very solid and resilient performance, but Manchester City did just about enough to secure a 2-1 lead going into next week’s second leg at the Signal Iduna Park.

The Black and Yellows were also denied what should have been a goal in the first half, when the referee adjudged that Jude Bellingham had fouled Ederson on the edge of the City box. Replays confirmed that the England international had very clearly won the ball, and he should have had a goal to his name.

Here are our player ratings for the Borussia Dortmund players from their 2-1 loss to Manchester City.

Marwin Hitz (6.5/10)

Hitz wasn’t tested as much as Manchester City would have liked. But he still made a few important saves, especially against Phil Foden in the 65th minute. He did not stand a chance with either of the two goals.
