Borussia Dortmund 4-1 Werder Bremen: Three talking points from comprehensive win
Erling Haaland finally ends his scoring drought
Another welcome sight for Dortmund fans this weekend will have been Erling Haaland’s quickfire brace to put the Black and Yellows in control of the match. The Norwegian international had gone seven games without scoring for club and country, and many were worried that this was due to the tour of Europe his father and agent, Mino Railoa, decided to go on earlier this month.
Haaland seems to have finally shaken this “transfer mist” off, however. In the 31st minute, Marco Reus was brought down in the box, and it was Haaland who stepped up and confidently blasted his shot past Jiri Pavlenka. Haaland added another a few minutes later courtesy of Bremen’s defensive lapse, extending his tally for the season to 23. The relief on his face was palpable after the two goals.
The BVB fans will be hoping that Haaland’s return to scoring is a sign of things to come. Big games against RB Leipzig and Wolfsburg loom in the wings, along with a DFB Pokal semi final against Holstein Kiel. It was however nice to see that more players got involved in the scoring, with the likes of Hummels and Reyna also chipping in, which gives hope that Dortmund will not be as reliant on the Norwegian international in coming games.
With everyone firing on all cylinders, the tail end of the season may look much rosier for Dortmund and Haaland in particular, who may see an unexpected return to the Champions League with his side due to recent developments surrounding the European Super League.
