Borussia Dortmund player ratings from hard fought win against Union Berlin
By Tushar Bahl
Marco Reus (7.5/10)
Reus looked lively right from the off and had a golden chance to make it 1-0 in the tenth minute, which he fired wide. He won his side the penalty, which he then turned home on the rebound, showing great commitment and awareness to follow up. He also set Haaland up with chances on a couple of occasions, and ended the evening with a game-high four key passes.
Gio Reyna (6.5/10)
Reyna was unlucky not to get a goal and an assist in the first half. He forced an excellent save from Luthe, before setting up a glorious chance for Haaland. The 18 year old then missed two good chances in the second half, which a player of his quality should have buried with ease. Overall, it was another encouraging performance from the USMNT international, which he should have capped off with a goal.
Thorgan Hazard (6/10)
Hazard made a lively start to the game and caused the Union Berlin a few problems early on. He started to get less and less involved as the game went on. It was a decent performance from the Belgian international, but not a noteworthy one. He will likely be back on the bench on Saturday.
Erling Haaland (4/10)
Haaland worked so hard in the build-up play. He won a lot of his duels, held the ball up really well and got into some excellent positions. But what seemed to be missing was his goalscoring touch. He should have ended the game with a hat-trick, or at least two goals. But he failed to beat Luthe with any of his six shots, including one from the penalty spot.
