Borussia Dortmund are in talks to extend the contract of U-23s head coach Enrico Maaßen, who has been linked with a move away from the club in recent weeks.

Enrico Maaßen became Borussia Dortmund II head coach in the summer, and has made an immediate impact on the team. Under his stewardship, the young Black and Yellows are fighting for promotion to the third division of German football. BVB II are currently top of the Regionalliga West standings, seven points clear of second placed Rot-Weiss Essen with just five games to go.

The Borussia Dortmund U-23s have won 24 of the 35 matches they have played under Maaßen this season. And their last defeat came all the way back in November, to Maaßen’s old club SV Rödinghausen.

Maaßen’s impressive impact has seen him attract interest from a number of 2. Bundesliga sides, including SC Paderborn, SV Darmstadt 98 and Hannover 96. The 37 year old is considered to be one of the best young trainers in Germany. So it is no surprise that other clubs are interested in appointing him as head coach. But Borussia Dortmund are not planning to part ways with him anytime soon.

"Speaking to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund II team manager Ingo Preuß confirmed that they are in talks with Maaßen over a contract extension.“He has a contract until 2022 and we are currently in talks to extend this contract,” Preuß said. “That also puts an end to the story. The rumors that are currently being circulated are far-fetched.”"

Maaßen still has more than one year left on his contract, which expires at the end of next season. And Preuß believes that he is more likely to extend his contract than to leave the club in the summer.
