RB Leipzig have appointed Jesse Marsch as their next head coach, with the 47 year old signing a two-year contract. Marsch will replace Julian Nagelsmann at Leipzig, who will make the switch to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich next season.

Marsch joins RB Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg, where he won a league and cup double in his first season as head coach. The Austrian giants are in pole position to win the domestic double once again this season.

Marsch’s impressive impact at Salzburg saw him attract the interest of a number of clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur and Eintracht Frankfurt. But he decided to join RB Leipzig instead.

At Leipzig, Marsch will be tasked with building on the progress made by the team under Julian Nagelsmann. The Bayern-bound head coach took RB Leipzig to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals in his first season in charge. And he looks set to lead them to a second place finish in the Bundesliga this season.

Marsch has worked at RB Leipzig in the past. He was an assistant coach to Ralf Rangnick during the 2018/19 season, before becoming the RB Salzburg head coach.

While Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and Borussia Mönchengladbach have all appointed new head coaches for next season, vacancies still remain at Eintracht Frankfurt, FC Köln and Hertha Berlin.

Positions could also open up at Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen in the coming weeks as the Bundesliga coaching carousel continues. Borussia Dortmund interim head coach Edin Terzic has been linked with a move to Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen in recent days.
