Borussia Dortmund are through to the final of the DFB-Pokal after a ruthless first half display helped them earn a 5-0 win over Holstein Kiel.

Despite being without the injured Erling Haaland, Borussia Dortmund made a dominant start to the game and took the lead in the 16th minute through Gio Reyna. The 18 year old found the net with a lovely finish from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Reyna then doubled his and Dortmund’s tally just six minutes later, although this one was a much easier finish as he tapped the ball into the net after some excellent work from Marco Reus and Raphael Guerreiro. Reus got on the scoresheet just four minutes later, slotting the ball into the net after getting on the end of Emre Can’s dinked pass.

The floodgates opened up for the Black and Yellows, as a mistake from Kiel sent Thorgan Hazard through on goal. The Belgian international kept his composure and finished past Thomas Dähne to make it 4-0. Jude Bellingham then added a fifth on the stroke of half-time after some lovely play from Jadon Sancho.

The second half petered out, with Edin Terzic’s side happy to keep the ball and let Kiel do all the running. Second half substitute Mateu Morey had to be carried off on a stretcher after suffering a nasty looking injury on his right knee after his foot got stuck on the pitch. The Spaniard’s heartbreaking injury put a damper on the result, and hopefully we will see him back in action again very soon.

Jude Bellingham, Mats Hummels and Reinier Jesus came close to scoring in the final 15 minutes of the game, but there were no goals in the second half.
