Borussia Dortmund quartet nominated for Bundesliga Team of the Season
Bundesliga and EA Sports have released their list of nominees for the 2020/21 Team of the Season, and four Borussia Dortmund players have made the cut.
Erling Haaland, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Guerreiro and Mats Hummels are the four Borussia Dortmund players who have been included in the list of 40 nominees for the 2020/21 Bundesliga Team of the Season. A total of five goalkeepers, ten defenders, fifteen midfielders and ten forwards have been nominated for their performances in the Bundesliga over the course of the season.
Bayern Munich have the most number of nominated players from a single club, with seven of their players making the shortlist. VfL Wolfsburg are second, with five nominated players. While Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart all have four players in the shortlist.
Looking at the Borussia Dortmund players to have been nominated, it is easy to see why the quartet have made the cut. Erling Haaland is the second highest goalscorer in the Bundesliga this season, with 25 goals to his name in just 26 appearances. The Norwegian international has been breaking records for fun this season, showing why he is one of the hottest commodities in the world of football.
Jadon Sancho needed some time to find his form, but he has been simply unstoppable since the turn of the year. The 21 year old has six goals and 11 assists to his name in 23 appearances in the Bundesliga this season, an impressive return considering the injuries and pressure he has had to deal with this season.
Raphael Guerreiro has been one of Borussia Dortmund’s most consistent performers this season. The Portuguese international’s link-up play and quick feet have made him a vital cog in the BVB attack. He has four goals and nine assists in the Bundesliga this season.
While some of Borussia Dortmund’s defensive displays this season have been sub-par at best, things would have been a lot worse without Mats Hummels in the team. The 32 year old has largely been a commanding presence in defence, showing just how important he is to the Black and Yellows.
