Reported Borussia Dortmund target Peter Gulacsi extends RB Leipzig contract
Peter Gulacsi will be staying with RB Leipzig despite rumours linking him with a move to Borussia Dortmund. The goalkeeper has agreed to a new contract which will keep him at the Saxony based club until 2025.
The contract extension marks an end to the rumours about Peter Gulacsi’s future. The Hungarian international was heavily linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund. While Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and AS Roma were also thought to be interested in signing him.
There was a release clause in his contract which would have allowed him to leave in the summer for a fee of just 12.5 million euros. But the 31 year old will now stay with RB Leipzig under new head coach Jesse Marsch next season.
Gulacsi joined RB Leipzig in 2015, and has made a total of 222 appearances for Die Roten Bullen. He has kept 15 clean sheets in just 31 Bundesliga appearances this season.
It will be interesting to see what the news of Gulacsi’s contract extension means for Borussia Dortmund’s goalkeeper search. VfB Stuttgart’s Gregor Kobel has been heavily linked with a move to Dortmund in recent weeks. And it is likely that he will now be the club’s first choice target. Reports have claimed that the 23 year old will cost around 15 million euros.
The Black and Yellows are reportedly looking to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer, with Roman Bürki heading for the exit door. The Swiss goalkeeper lost his place in the team to compatriot Marwin Hitz earlier this season, and is free to leave for a cut-price fee of just 5 million euros this summer.
