Borussia Dortmund managed to get a last gasp winner against RB Leipzig this past weekend courtesy of Jadon Sancho, a result that saw then break into the top 4 as other results around the league ended in their favour.

It was a very exciting and, dare I say, stressful weekend for the Schwarzgelben faithful as Borussia Dortmund came up against RB Leipzig at the Westfalenstadion on Saturday. The two clubs clashed with serious vigor and intent, perhaps giving the world a bit of a preview of what’s to come this Thursday in the DFB Pokal final. For Dortmund however, this game held quite a bit more significance than it did to Leipzig, and they showed that with their performance for the majority of the game.

This is going to be a relief for many who believed that the Champions League race was done and dusted. Borussia Dortmund’s form for much of the season made them a likely outlier, destined to play in the Europa League next season. This result has managed to put their fate in their own hands (or legs) once again. Two wins in the league will see them play in Europe’s premier club competition once again next season.

Aside from their place in the table, the game had a level of significance that went beyond mere points on the table. It was a milestone for the club. It was their 5th win in a row since being ousted from the Champions League by Manchester City. Not many gave Dortmund a chance to hit top 4, but they have shown character to grind out the results necessary to be in the position they are in today. Now that the dust has settled over this emotional affair, lets take a look at some of the key takeaways from this result.
