Borussia Dortmund 3-2 RB Leipzig: Key Talking Points from Bundesliga win
Nagelsmann and Terzic: The chance to leave behind a lasting impression
As much as Saturday’s clash was a sample of the type of match we may see between the two sets of players on Thursday, it was also a sample of the clash between two managers who have the chance to write a chapter in the history of their respective clubs as they both leave their posts this summer.
For Julian Nagelsmann, the Bayern bound prodigy has the chance to win RB Leipzig’s first top flight trophy, a major milestone for any club. He will also have the chance to prove to the world that he is ready to take on a role as big as the Bayern job by finally having a trophy to show for all his efforts.
For Edin Terzic, however, the achievement would be felt far more personally. As a boyhood Borussia Dortmund fan growing up in the area, he always dreamed of coaching his side. In the midst of a very turbulent season, he got his chance after the sacking of Lucien Favre.
Terzic has shown that he has certainly grown in his role, and the club have grown with him. What better way for him to end his stint than to bring home the DFB-Pokal trophy from Berlin and assure Dortmund qualify for the Champions League despite their struggles?
It would be a dream finish for both the club as well as the fans, but also a potential indicator that while Terzic may be stepping aside for Marco Rose for now, it may not be his first and only stint at the helm of this club as he continues to develop his coaching acumen.
