Mainz 05 vs Borussia Dortmund: Match Preview and Team News
Team News
Borussia Dortmund come into the game with no fresh injuries to speak of, which is music to most fans’ ears I’m sure. Coming off a gruelling week with the team having played Leipzig twice, we could see some rotation.
Because of injuries to Mateu Morey, Marwin Hitz and Dan Axel Zagadou, the back line should remain unchanged. This coupled with the fact that these will be Lukasz Piszczek’s penultimate game with the club, the former Polish international should get a run out. The veteran right-back has also been in stellar form of late.
Erling Haaland, Marco Reus, and Jadon Sancho should start in attack based on the prolific form that they showed in the final. With the business end of the season upon us, Terzic will want to end his tenure in a strong manner, and that means making sure he uses all the attacking firepower at his disposal.
There is a chance that we don’t see Sancho and/or Reus play the whole game on Sunday, with the likes of Hazard and Knauff getting some minutes simply to keep them fresh for the game against Bayer Leverkusen.
For Mainz, they come into this game without any notable injuries, so they will likely field a similar lineup to the one that frustrated Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend.
Expected Lineups
Mainz: Zentner – St. Juste, Bell, Niakhate (c) – da Costa, Barreiro, Kohr, Mwene – Quaison – Burkardt, Onisiwo
Borussia Dortmund: Bürki – Piszczek, Akanji, Hummels, Guerreiro – Bellingham, Dahoud – Sancho, Reus (c), Reyna – Haaland
