Thomas Meunier (6.5/10)

Meunier replaced the injured Lukasz Piszczek in the starting XI and put in a solid shift for the team. He defended really well for the majority of the game, and also delivered a couple of dangerous crosses going forward.

Manuel Akanji (7/10)

Akanji continued his good run of form with another confident performance in the heart of the Borussia Dortmund defence. The Swiss centre-back made several important recoveries and interceptions for his side. He looked confident on the ball and completed all but four of his passes.

Mats Hummels (7.5/10)

Hummels led the Borussia Dortmund defence really well and made sure that Mainz weren’t able to get even a glimpse of Roman Bürki’s goal in the first half. Like Akanji, Hummels made some important tackles and clearances for his side, and also played the ball out from the back really well.

Raphael Guerreiro (7.5/10)

Guerreiro gave Borussia Dortmund the lead with a gorgeous curling effort in the first half. He was also involved in the build up to the second goal, and touched the ball an incredible 131 times. The Portuguese international did forget his defensive duties at times, but overall it was a strong performance from him.
