Bundesliga relegation scrap: Three teams to battle it out on the final matchday

The Bundesliga relegation battle will go down to the final day of the season, with FC Köln, Werder Bremen and Arminia Bielefeld all looking to avoid the drop.

FC Köln occupy 17th place in the Bundesliga standings going into the final matchday of the season. They could only manage a goalless draw away to Hertha Berlin on Saturday, leaving them a point adrift of the relegation play-off spot. They need a win next weekend to have any chance of playing in the Bundesliga next season.

That relegation play-off spot is currently occupied by Werder Bremen, who fell to a 2-0 defeat to FC Augsburg on Saturday. The defeat marked the end of Florian Kohfeldt’s time at the club, as he was sacked on Sunday. Werder Bremen legend Thomas Schaaf will return to the dugout as head coach for the final game of the season.

Also involved in the relegation battle are Arminia Bielefeld. Although last season’s 2. Bundesliga champions gave their survival hopes a boost on Saturday by earning a 1-1 draw against TSG Hoffenheim. Frank Kramer’s side currently occupy 15th place, and find themselves a point clear of Werder Bremen going into the final matchday.

The relegation battle looks set to go down the wire, and the final matchday of the season will no doubt be full of twists and turns.

FC Köln will take on the already relegated Schalke 04 in their final game of the season. While Werder Bremen face a tough home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach. The Foals are battling for a spot in the UEFA Conference League, and will certainly be determined to get the three points.
