Belgium have announced their squad for this summer’s European Championships, and Borussia Dortmund trio Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier have all been included.

The inclusion of Axel Witsel is a surprise, considering he has been out since the beginning of January with a torn achilles tendon. But his call-up is certainly welcome news for both the Belgian national team and Borussia Dortmund.

Belgium head coach Roberto Martinez said that Witsel’s call-up to the squad for the Euros is a reward for all the hard work he has done in recent months. He added that they will give the Borussia Dortmund midfielder as much time as he needs to get back to full fitness, and the final decision on whether or not he can play will be made on June 11.

Also included in the 26-man squad are Thorgan Hazard and Thomas Meunier. Both players have been used as wing-backs by Roberto Martinez in recent months, and will be fighting for spots in the starting XI.

The Belgium squad features a number of big names, including Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid’s Eden Hazard. Former Borussia Dortmund striker Michy Batshuayi has also been named in the squad.
