Jude Bellingham says brother Jobe will never play for Borussia Dortmund’s rivals Schalke 04
Borussia Dortmund sealed Champions League qualification on Sunday with a win over Mainz, capping off what has been a stellar week for the Black and Yellows.
Having won the DFB-Pokal earlier in the week, the solidification of their place amongst the German contingent taking part in the Champions League next year means that the Ruhr club have essentially saved their season, in no small part to teenager Jude Bellingham, whose performances have been one of the highlights of this late Dortmund resurgence.
The 17 year old Englishman was elated about the fact that his side will be taking part in Europe’s top club competition next season, telling Sky Sport that he was so happy that his side made it as far as they did in this year’s iteration of the competition, but also about the fact that they will be able to play in it again next year.
"“I’m so happy,” Bellingham said. “When I came here, I knew how big the club was and what the expectations were. We were in the quarter-finals of the Champions League and won the cup. Today we’ve qualified for the Champions League again after being in a difficult position. That’s fantastic, I’m very happy.”"
One of the most interesting segments of the interview didn’t revolve around Dortmund’s young star, but around his brother Jobe, who is 15 and currently plies his trade for the Birmingham City youth team. When asked about his thoughts on the possibility of his brother joining Dortmund in the future, Jude was quick to share his excitement at the thought:
"“That would be a dream come true for me. I hope he continues progressing as a person and a player. I don’t want to put any pressure on him – but he definitely won’t be playing for Schalke.”"
Borussia Dortmund fans will be happy to see that Jude has adopted their aversion to Schalke, and his willingness to make sure his brother doesn’t ever end up with them. That being said however, the thought of the Bellingham brothers one day plying their trade together at the Westfalenstadion is a wholesome and heartwarming prospect.
