Erling Haaland showed his immense quality once again on Saturday, as he scored a brace to help Borussia Dortmund earn a 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen on the final day of the season. The two strikes helped Haaland take his tally for the season to 41 goals, and helped him match a 24 year old record.
Here are some records, facts and stats from Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
- 40+ goals in a season: Erling Haaland became the first U-21 player since Ronaldo to score 40+ goals in one of Europe’s top five leagues in a single season. Ronaldo scored 46 goals for Barcelona during the 1996/97 season. While Haaland finishes the 2020/21 season with 41 goals in just 41 appearances.
- Youngest player to 40 Bundesliga goals: Erling Haaland’s brace on Saturday helped him become the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score 40 goals. Only one player has reached the 40-goal mark in the competition in fewer games. Legendary striker Uwe Seeler took just 42 games to get to 40 goals, one game less than Haaland.
- 11 games with 2+ goals: Erling Haaland ends the season having found the net at least twice in 11 Bundesliga matches. Only two players in Bundesliga history have managed to reach this feat before. Gerd Müller had 12 games with 2+ goals in the 1971/72 season. While Robert Lewandowski had 11 games with 2+ goals in the 2016/17 season.
- Borussia Dortmund match scoring record: Borussia Dortmund have now scored at least one goal in each of their last 32 games in the Bundesliga, equaling a club record set between 1995 and 1996. The Black and Yellows have also scored in each of their last 48 games across all competitions.
