Borussia Dortmund II were held to a goalless draw by SV Rödinghausen on Wednesday evening. But with two games in hand over second placed RW Essen, they remain very much on track for promotion.

Looking to take another big step towards promotion, Borussia Dortmund II made a strong start to the game but weren’t able to fashion too many clear cut openings. Rödinghausen defended with great resolve, and the two sides went into the break with the scores level.

Borussia Dortmund II began the second half determined to find the breakthrough. Franz Pfanne and Steffen Tigges both came close to scoring the opener. Richmond Tachie had the best chance of the game in the 76th minute, but wasn’t able to beat the Rödinghausen goalkeeper. Rödinghausen had a few chances of their own, but Luca Unbehaun stepped up and made some important saves for his side.

In the end, Enrico Maaßen’s side had to settle for a point which saw them drop down to second place in the Regionalliga West standings.

RW Essen earned a 5-2 win over Sportfreunde Lotte on Wednesday to move back to the top of the table. They now hold a one point lead over BVB II. But the young Black and Yellows have two games in hand on their promotion rivals. And if they can manage to get five points from their remaining three matches, they will be promoted to the third division of German football.
