Borussia Dortmund are set to sign Gregor Kobel, with the deal for the goalkeeper expected to be completed imminently. According to BILD, Kobel will sign a long term contract with the Black and Yellows, and will earn an annual salary of 3.5 million euros.

The tabloid also adds that Borussia Dortmund will pay Stuttgart a transfer fee of around 15 million euros for the goalkeeper’s signature.

It has been heavily reported in recent weeks that Borussia Dortmund want to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. A number of names have been linked, but it quickly emerged that Gregor Kobel was the club’s number one target. Tottenham Hotspur were also said to be interested in signing the 23 year old, but now it looks like he is on his way to Dortmund.

Kobel is coming off an impressive season with Stuttgart. He kept six clean sheets in 34 appearances across all competitions, and helped Stuttgart finish their first season back in the Bundesliga in ninth place in the table.

It will be interesting to see what the arrival of Gregor Kobel means for Roman Bürki. The 30 year old lost his starting spot earlier in the season, and is reportedly free to leave the club for a cut-price fee this summer. Marwin Hitz will likely stay on as the second-choice goalkeeper behind Kobel, having recently signed a contract extension.
