Borussia Dortmund U-23s came from two goals behind to earn a late 2-2 draw against VfB Homberg on Saturday.

Playing at home in front of 500 supporters, the Borussia Dortmund U-23s were looking to take another big step towards promotion on Saturday. But they fell behind in the 38th minute, with Iceland U-21s international Kolbeinn Finnsson scoring an own goal. Homberg then doubled their lead early in the second half, leaving the young Black and Yellows with a mountain to climb.

Substitute Dominik Wanner halved the deficit at the hour mark with a lovely first time effort. And Tobias Raschl then scored the equaliser in the 79th minute with a well taken free-kick from just outside the box.

Borussia Dortmund II had a couple of decent half chances to score late on, but they weren’t able to find a winner and the game ended 2-2.

The result puts Borussia Dortmund II back on top of the Regionalliga West standings, but only just. Both BVB II and RW Essen have the same number of points (87), and also the same goal difference (+60). But Enrico Maaßen’s side have scored one goal more than their rivals.

Borussia Dortmund II also have a game in hand, and will be promoted to the third division if they manage to pick up a maximum of four points from their remaining two matches. Next up for the U-23s is a home game against bottom of the table Bergisch Gladbach on Tuesday evening. They end their season away to Wuppertaler SV four days later.
