Erling Haaland enjoyed a record breaking season in the UEFA Champions League, and he finishes the campaign as the tournament’s top scorer.
Playing only his second season of Champions League football, Haaland showed the world just how good he is with some incredible performances for Borussia Dortmund over the course of the tournament. The Norwegian international scored a total of ten goals in just eight appearances in the competition this season. He finished two goals clear of second placed Kylian Mbappe.
It was a record breaking campaign in the Champions League for Erling Haaland, who became the fastest and youngest player to reach 20 goals in the competition’s history. He also became the first ever player to score ten plus goals in each of their first two seasons in the Champions League.
Six of Haaland’s ten goals in the Champions League this season came during the group stage. And he followed that up by netting four of Borussia Dortmund’s five goals in the round of 16 win over Sevilla. In addition to his ten goals, Haaland also managed to get two assists.
Haaland ended the season with 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for Borussia Dortmund. The 20 year old also helped the Black and Yellows win the DFB-Pokal and qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Haaland’s incredible goalscoring exploits have seen him climb up to fourth place in Borussia Dortmund’s list of all-time top goalscorers in the Champions League. He is now just six goals shy of Marco Reus, who holds the top spot with 18 goals to his name.
