Borussia Dortmund internationals: Jude Bellingham impresses on first England start
By Tushar Bahl
Four Borussia Dortmund players were in action for their respective countries on Wednesday, as teams continued their preparations for the upcoming European Championships.
Jude Bellingham made his first senior start for England as they took on Austria in a warm-up game ahead of the Euros. The Borussia Dortmund midfielder became the youngest player to start a game for the senior England team since Wayne Rooney in 2003. And he showed his quality once again, as he delivered an impressive performance in the heart of the England midfield.
England earned a narrow 1-0 win over Austria, with Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka scoring the winner in the second half. Jadon Sancho was an unused substitute in the game.
Mats Hummels made his return to the Germany side after two and a half years out, as they played out a 1-1 draw against Denmark. The Borussia Dortmund defender played 90 minutes for his country on Wednesday evening and delivered a largely solid performance.
Gladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus opened the scoring for Germany, before RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen netted the equaliser.
Thomas Delaney also played 90 minutes for Denmark, while Emre Can missed the game due to a minor adductor injury. Joachim Löw said after the game that he expects Can to be back in training in the coming days.
Erling Haaland scored a late winner to help Norway earn a narrow 1-0 win over Luxembourg. The Borussia Dortmund striker was played through on goal in the 92nd minute, and he kept his composure to secure the win for his country.
More Borussia Dortmund players could be involved on Thursday, with Belgium and Switzerland among the teams in action.
