Max Eberl believes Marco Rose can win the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director has high hopes for Marco Rose’s tenure at Borussia Dortmund, stating that the former Gladbach and RB Salzburg head coach has what it takes to bring the Bundesliga title back to Dortmund.
The stage is set for a new era to begin at Borussia Dortmund this summer. Having secured the signing of head coach Marco Rose from Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier this year, Dortmund will usher in a new chapter of their history under the leadership of Jürgen Klopp’s former charge at Mainz. The 44 year old comes to the club with much acclaim to his relatively fresh managerial career. One of the loudest voices gushing his praise, rather surprisingly, is Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl.
Despite the circumstances surrounding Rose’s move, his former colleague and employer spoke of Rose in glowing terms in a recent interview with Bild am Sonntag (H/T: Fussball News). Eberl has full faith in Rose’s ability to win the Bundesliga title with Dortmund, stating that
"“Yes, he is a coach who can win trophies and titles, he has already proven that in Salzburg…He managed to make the Champions League with us, which is like a championship for us. And I believe that Marco can also lead a club to a championship in the Bundesliga.”"
Eberl was also very quick to defend his decision to keep Rose at the helm at Gladbach despite the dip of form they suffered after the announcement was made of his move to Dortmund. Eberl noted Rose’s ambition as one of the main reasons why he still felt he was still the right man for the job.
"“You only pull this emergency brake when the coach is no longer performing. I didn’t see that, on the contrary. Marco was very ambitious, especially after the announcement of the Dortmund move, he really wanted to reach the goal of qualifying for Europe.”"
Borussia Dortmund fans will be hoping that Marco Rose can bring this level of ambition and overall professionalism with him to the Westfalenstadion. It has been quite some time since we’ve seen a Bundesliga trophy hoisted in the Borsigplatz and if Eberl’s words are to be believed, then Dortmund should be in for a very interesting few seasons ahead. It still remains to be seen how Rose will set his Dortmund side up for the coming year, but if we reference his time at Gladbach he will likely bring his own brand of exciting, attacking football for fans to hopefully enjoy from the stands in the not so distant future.
