Germany were at their ruthless best on Monday evening, as they warmed up for Euro 2020 with a 7-1 thrashing of Latvia. Borussia Dortmund duo Mats Hummels and Emre Can were both involved in the game.

Mats Hummels started in the back three as Germany took to the pitch against Latvia for their final warm-up game ahead of the Euros. It did not take the 2014 World Cup winners long to open the scoring, with Robin Gosens making it 1-0 in the 19th minute.

Ilkay Gündoğan then doubled Germany’s lead just two minutes later, before Thomas Müller got on the scoresheet in the 27th minute. An own goal from Roberts Ozols then made it 4-0, and the goal of the game followed soon after.

Mats Hummels played a stunning outside of the foot pass from his own half to send Serge Gnabry through on goal. And the Bayern Munich winger scored Germany’s fifth with a lovely first time finish.

Germany began the second half just like they had ended the first. Timo Werner came off the bench at half time and made it 6-0 in the 50th minute. Latvia pulled a goal back in the 75th minute, but Leroy Sané scored just one minute later to seal a thumping win for Germany.

Emre Can came off the bench at the hour mark, replacing former Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan. Can had missed Germany’s game against Denmark last week with a minor adductor injury. And his return to action will no doubt be another big boost for Joachim Löw ahead of the start of the European Championships.
