Predicted Germany lineup for Euro 2020 opener against France
Germany get their Euro 2020 group stage campaign underway with a mouth-watering clash against France in Munich on Tuesday (kick-off: 21:00 CET).
Germany have endured a difficult few years, and are still reeling from their group stage exit at the 2018 World Cup. But with Mats Hummels and Thomas Müller now back in the squad, Die Mannschaft can no longer be underestimated.
Germany are by no means one of the top contenders to win the Euros this summer. But they still have enough quality in their squad. And a good result against France could be the perfect confidence booster as they look to make a deep run into the tournament.
France head into the European Championships as the heavy favourites, and they will certainly fancy their chances against Germany. The 2018 World Cup winners boast one of the strongest squads in the competition, with world-class players in nearly every position.
Expected Germany line-up vs France: Joachim Löw set to stick with the 3-4-3 formation
Germany head coach Joachim Löw used a back three for the two warm-up games against Denmark and Latvia. And the 3-4-3 formation looks set to stay for the Euro 2020 opener against France. There could be a couple of changes in personnel, with Chelsea star Kai Havertz in line for a return to the starting XI.
Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels and Antonio Rüdiger should start as the three centre-backs, with Manuel Neuer behind them in goal. Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Atalanta’s Robin Gosens are expected to play as the two wing-backs.
With Leon Goretzka not expected to be fit in time to start, Ilkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos will start as the two central midfielders. And Thomas Müller looks set to start through the middle, with Serge Gnabry and Kai Havertz joining him in the front three.
Expected Germany XI vs France: Neuer – Ginter, Hummels, Rüdiger – Kimmich, Gündogan, Kroos, Gosens – Havertz, T. Müller – Gnabry
