Four Borussia Dortmund players nominated for 2021 Golden Boy award

Borussia Dortmund quartet Jude Bellingham, Youssoufa Moukoko, Gio Reyna and Reinier Jesus are among the hundred nominees for the 2021 Golden Boy award. 

Italian publication Tuttosport have announced the initial list of hundred nominees for the 2021 Golden Boy award, and four Borussia Dortmund players have made the cut. The award is given by a panel of European sports journalists to the best U-21 player playing in Europe every year.

Jude Bellingham leads the list of nominees, having enjoyed a stunning debut season at Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder quickly established himself as a vital player in the BVB starting XI, and showed his immense talent over the course of the season.

Youssoufa Moukoko has also been nominated after a record-breaking season. The 16 year old became the youngest player to ever feature in the Champions League in November, and then followed that up by becoming the Bundesliga’s youngest ever goalscorer just one month later.

Gio Reyna also gets the nod on the back of an impressive season that saw him score seven goals and provide seven assists. While Reinier Jesus makes the list despite being limited to a bit-part role this season.

Some of the other big names on the list of nominees include Barcelona’s Pedri, Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Stade Rennais’ Eduardo Camavinga.

The list will be trimmed over the next few months and the winner of the 2021 Golden Boy award will be announced towards the end of the year. Fans can also have their say by voting on the Tuttosport website.

Two Borussia Dortmund players have won the Golden Boy award in the past. Erling Haaland won the award last year, while Mario Götze won it in 2011.
