England could only manage a goalless draw at home to Scotland in their Euro 2020 group stage clash, as both Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench.

England took on Scotland on Friday looking to seal their place in the Euro 2020 round of 16. And while the result means that the Three Lions will very likely qualify for the next round, the flat performance will be a cause of concern for many fans going into the business end of the tournament.

England were very much outplayed by Scotland, who showed more energy and desire. If Scotland had a bit more quality in attack, they would have surely come away with the three points.

Borussia Dortmund duo Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham spent the entirety of the game warming the bench, as they watched their England teammates toil and labour to a goalless draw against the world’s 44th-best ranked team.

Gareth Southgate’s failure to bring on Jadon Sancho was especially surprising. The Borussia Dortmund forward has proven his game changing ability time and time again over the last three years. But once again he wasn’t given the chance to show his quality, even though England only used up two of their allotted five substitutions.

England could only manage one shot on target over the course of the 90 minutes against Scotland, and never really looked like scoring. They lacked creativity and directness in attack, two things Sancho would have certainly provided.
