Denmark are through to the Euro 2020 round of 16 after earning an emphatic 4-1 win over Russia on the final matchday of the group stage.

Denmark began the day in fourth place in Group B (with two defeats in two games) and knew that they needed a big win over Russia to have any chance of making it to the round of 16. And they delivered an absolutely stunning performance to seal their place in the last 16 on an emotional night in Copenhagen.

Highly rated winger Mikkel Damsgaard opened the scoring in the 38th minute, before RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen made it 2-0 at the hour mark. Russia pulled a goal back through Artem Dzyuba. But Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle scored within three minutes of each other to send the Copenhagen crowd into raptures and give the Danes a dramatic win.
