Borussia Dortmund will have to make do without Dan-Axel Zagadou for at least the first part of pre-season, while Youssoufa Moukoko is closing in on his return.
The Borussia Dortmund players not involved in the European Championship are set to begin pre-season training next week. The likes of Erling Haaland, Marco Reus and co. will be put through their paces by new head coach Marco Rose as they begin preparations for the start of the new season.
Ruhr Nachrichten have an update on the five Borussia Dortmund players who are dealing with long-term injuries. They report that Dan-Axel Zagadou is not yet ready to make his return to training, and he will miss at least the first part of the pre-season. Zagadou has been out since March after undergoing surgery on his injured knee.
Youssoufa Moukoko, on the other hand, is closing in on his return to full fitness. The highly rated striker should be fit again shortly, but Borussia Dortmund will not be rushing him back to the pitch.
Mateu Morey, who injured his lateral collateral, capsular and anterior cruciate ligaments in May, is not expected to be back before the new year. The Spaniard has already had one surgery and will need another operation.
New Borussia Dortmund signing Soumaila Coulibaly will also have to wait to make his debut. The talented defender is sidelined with a knee ligament injury, which he suffered while at PSG, and is not expected to be back before fall.
Meanwhile, Marwin Hitz is making good progress from the knee injury he suffered in May. But he will not be back on the pitch right at the start of pre-season training.
