Lucien Favre turns down Crystal Palace job to take longer break from football
Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Lucien Favre has pulled out of the running for the Crystal Palace job as he does not feel ready to make his return to coaching just yet.
Lucien Favre was in advanced talks to join Crystal Palace, and it looked like everything was in place for his appointment as their new head coach. However, he informed the Premier League side on Thursday that he would not be joining them after all.
According to the Athletic, Favre told Crystal Palace that he had been quite affected with the way his time at Borussia Dortmund ended, and the politics that were involved in his departure. The 63 year old reportedly does not feel that he is ready to make his return to coaching just yet. Multiple reports in England also claim that he wants to take a longer break from football before taking on his next role.
In addition to Crystal Palace, Favre was also attracting interest from Everton, LOSC Lille and Fenerbahce.
Favre has been out of work since being sacked by Borussia Dortmund in December 2020. The Swiss tactician spent two and a half years in charge of the Black and Yellows, and led the team to two second place finishes in the Bundesliga. But after a disappointing start to the 2020/21 season, the BVB bosses decided to part ways with him.
Edin Terzic was appointed as interim head coach until the end of the season, and helped Borussia Dortmund win the DFB-Pokal. Marco Rose will replace Favre as the permanent head coach next season.
