Borussia Dortmund have appointed Edin Terzic as the club’s Technical Director, with the 38 year old signing a long-term contract extension.
Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Edin Terzic will stay on at the club, but not as part of Marco Rose’s coaching staff. Terzic will have a new role at the club starting from next month. He has been appointed the Black and Yellows’ Technical Director, and has signed a new contract which will keep him at the club until 2025.
"“The idea of creating the position of technical director at BVB came about in the course of our analysis of the season,” Terzic said. “Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc, Sebastian Kehl and I worked together to draw up a requirements profile and define the scope of the job. We developed an idea of how important this position would be for Borussia Dortmund, what a positive influence it would have on the club and how exciting it could be for me.”"
Terzic’s new role will see him work closely with Michael Zorc and Sebastian Kehl. He will be involved in the squad planning process, and will also act as an interface between the youth and professional teams. In addition, he will also follow the progress of Borussia Dortmund’s loaned players and help with their development.
Terzic was heavily linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund over the last few months, with a number of clubs reportedly interested in appointing him as head coach. Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg and Tottenham Hotspur all had an interest in Terzic. But the boyhood BVB supporter never had any desire to leave.
"“If I wanted to leave BVB, I had many opportunities in recent weeks to accept offers from clubs and associations,” Terzic said. “I listened to a lot of things, had good conversations, but ultimately always came back to this one point: I had zero desire to leave Borussia Dortmund.”"
Terzic was appointed Borussia Dortmund head coach until the end of the season following Lucien Favre’s sacking in December. He helped the club win the DFB-Pokal and finish in the top four last season. The initial plan was for Terzic to be a part of Marco Rose’s coaching staff next season. But now he will take on a new role at the club.
