Borussia Dortmund sell Sergio Gomez to Anderlecht
Borussia Dortmund have announced that young midfielder Sergio Gomez has joined Belgian side RSC Anderlecht on a permanent transfer.
After spending the last two seasons on loan, Sergio Gomez has sealed a permanent transfer away from Borussia Dortmund. The young midfielder joins RSC Anderlecht on a four year contract. According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Borussia Dortmund will receive a transfer fee of up to 1.5 million euros for him.
Sergio Gomez joined Borussia Dortmund from Barcelona’s youth academy in January 2018. He was limited to just three substitute appearances for the Black and Yellows, before being sent out on loan to Spanish side SD Huesca. He helped Huesca earn promotion to La Liga during his first season with the club, and the loan spell was extended for another year.
Gomez found playing time hard to come by in the recently concluded campaign, and spent just 768 minutes on the pitch for Huesca as they were relegated from La Liga.
Gomez was not part of Borussia Dortmund’s plans for the upcoming campaign. Ruhr Nachrichten reported earlier this week that the BVB bosses had two offers for the 20 year old. And now he has joined Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht, where he will be looking to make a fresh start.
Gomez becomes the third player to officially leave Borussia Dortmund this summer (after Jeremy Toljan and Lukasz Piszczek). Leonardo Balerdi is also set to join Olympique Marseille on a permanent transfer, and the move should be made official soon. BVB would also like to sell Marius Wolf and Immanuel Pherai this summer.
