Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg, who could be available for a fee in the region of ten million euros.
RB Leipzig defender Marcel Halstenberg is attracting the interest of Borussia Dortmund. This is being reported by WAZ, who add that the 29 year old would be interested in making the switch to BVB. However, so far there has only been initial contact between the two parties
Marcel Halstenberg is also a boyhood Borussia Dortmund fan and spent two years playing for the club’s second team before making the switch to St. Pauli in 2013. He then joined RB Leipzig in 2015, and has been with the Saxony based club ever since.
Halstenberg’s contract with RB Leipzig is set to expire at the end of next season. And WAZ claim that he is even ready to sign a pre-contract agreement before joining Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer next summer.
Halstenberg is primarily a left-back, but he is just as comfortable playing at centre-back. Borussia Dortmund are well stocked at left-back with Raphael Guerreiro and Nico Schulz. However, the latter could well be allowed to leave this summer.
There were conflicting reports regarding Borussia Dortmund’s interest in Halstenberg on Thursday. Both BILD and Sport1 claimed that the versatile defender is a target for BVB. While Ruhr Nachrichten reported that the Black and Yellows do not want to sign him this summer. It will certainly be interesting to see how this story progresses over the coming days and weeks.
