Gregor Kobel is set to cut short his post-Euro 2020 break, while Mats Hummels, Emre Can and Raphael Guerreiro are also expected to return to training before the start of Borussia Dortmund’s pre-season training camp.
With a number of Borussia Dortmund players involved at the Euros, Marco Rose will have to wait until after the pre-season training camp in Bad Ragaz to have his entire squad available to him. But some players are set to make their returns earlier.
According to Ruhr Nachrichten, Gregor Kobel has already told Marco Rose that he wants to cut short his break and return to training much earlier. The summer signing is eager to get started at Borussia Dortmund, and is only planning to take a short vacation after his involvement at the Euros.
The newspaper adds that Raphael Guerreiro is expected to be back on July 19 or 20. While Mats Hummels and Emre Can will also go through their performance diagnostic tests before Borussia Dortmund jet off to Switzerland.
Decisions on when Axel Witsel, Thorgan Hazard, Thomas Meunier and Manuel Akanji are to return will be made on an individual basis in consultation with Marco Rose. All four players were heavily involved at the Euros, and are expected to join the team during the Bad Ragaz training camp.
Meanwhile, Jude Bellingham and Thomas Delaney will both be given three weeks off. The Borussia Dortmund duo are set to face off in the Euro 2020 semifinals on Wednesday. And they will probably only be back in training after the end of the training camp.
Borussia Dortmund play their first pre-season friendly against FC Geißen on July 13. They will head off to Bad Ragaz for a week long training camp on July 23.
