Borussia Dortmund fans can look forward to a maximum of 25,000 spectators being allowed back in the stadium when the 2021/22 Bundesliga season kicks off.

Bundesliga fans look set to once again have the opportunity to enjoy watching their teams play from within their respective stadiums on August 13th as the new season kicks off. Clubs have been given the green light from politicians to welcome fans back to stadiums, albeit with some restrictions.

Stadiums can be at a maximum of 50% capacity, with the total number of spectators being capped at 25,000 for the time being. This means that we can look forward seeing the return of the atmospheres that make Bundesliga games so special.

Munich is an exception from the 25,000 spectator limit due to the spread of the “Delta” COVID-19 variant that has become more prevalent in the area. For the start of the season, the Allianz Arena will be able to welcome back a maximum of 20,000 fans. The COVID-19 incidence rate must also remain below 35 in the region for fans to be able to attend games.

For fans going to enjoy games at venues across stadiums in Germany, individuals who have not received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine will have to present a negative COVID-19 test at the venues in question. Other hygiene rules will also be in force.

For Borussia Dortmund in particular, this will be a massive boost as at least a portion of the famous Yellow Wall will be able to return to the Westfalenstadion to support their team in earnest. Often considered the team’s 12th man, the return of Dortmund supporters will likely help spur the team on to continue the fine vein of form they finished last season with.

Borussia Dortmund’s first Bundesliga game of the new season will be a home game against Eintracht Frankfurt. Games against Frankfurt are always tough affairs, so having the fanbase back on the opening day will be a step in the right direction of helping ensure a strong start to the season.
