After a goalless first half, VfL Bochum scored three quick-fire goals to win the Cup der Traditionen against Borussia Dortmund. As we saw against FC Gießen, the first-team players played in the first half and the U-23s took to the pitch after the break.

Marco Rose made a number of changes to the side that won against FC Gießen on Tuesday. New signing Gregor Kobel made his Borussia Dortmund debut, while Gio Reyna was also named in the starting XI.

Borussia Dortmund II centre-backs Lennard Maloney and Antonios Papadopoulos were the best players in the first half, with the latter especially impressing thanks to his aggressive and strong defending.

Borussia Dortmund had a number of decent chances to score in the opening 45 minutes, with Gio Reyna, Julian Brandt and Marco Reus causing a number of problems to the Bochum defence with their quick passing and movement. Steffen Tigges and Marius Wolf both came close to scoring, but the two sides went into the break all square.

Borussia Dortmund changed their entire XI at the break, with the players from the U-23s team getting a chance to impress in the second half.

Highly rated defender Nnamdi Collins had to come off just 18 minutes into the second half after suffering what looked like a knee injury. The BVB bosses will be hoping that his injury is not too serious.

Bochum took the lead soon after, with Soma Novothny scoring the opener. The second goal arrived just moments later as Silvère Ganvoula headed home from a corner. Former Borussia Dortmund youth team player Herbert Bockhorn then scored from a free-kick to make it 3-0.
