Borussia Dortmund target Donyell Malen given extra time off by PSV Eindhoven

Donyell Malen was due to return to training for PSV Eindhoven on Monday. But the forward has been given extra time off amid interest from Borussia Dortmund.
PSV Eindhoven are looking to sell Donyell Malen and Denzel Dumfries this summer, and both players have now been given an extended break to secure moves away from the club. Multiple reports in the Netherlands claim that the duo will only return to training if there is no prospect of a move away from the club. Malen is Borussia Dortmund’s top target to replace Jadon Sancho.
According to De Telegraaf, Borussia Dortmund are still working with Malen’s agent Mino Raiola to prepare an opening bid that would tempt PSV.
It was reported by Ruhr Nachrichten on Sunday that PSV Eindhoven’s asking price of 30 million euros is a lot more than what Borussia Dortmund are willing to pay for Malen. The Black and Yellows have already reached an agreement with the Netherlands international over personal terms.
But both clubs are having to deal with the financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and so there is even more pressure to get the best deal possible. As a result of this, the negotiations are said to be dragging on. Michael Zorc told Ruhr Nachrichten on Sunday that a transfer has to make sense financially, “otherwise you also have to say no sometimes.”
Marco Rose will certainly be hoping that the move for Sancho’s replacement can be sorted soon. Borussia Dortmund head off to their training camp in Switzerland on Friday. And having the new signing in place before then would certainly help with the preparations for the new season.
