Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Donyell Malen, with the Netherlands international joining on a five year contract.

The wait is over and Borussia Dortmund have finally announced the arrival of Jadon Sancho’s successor. Donyell Malen joins the Black and Yellows from PSV Eindhoven for a fee in the region of 30 million euros. The 22 year old has signed a five year contract and has already linked up with his new teammates at the club’s training camp in Switzerland.

"Malen said, “Borussia Dortmund is a top European club that always fights at the top of the Bundesliga and has high expectations in the UEFA Champions League. I can’t wait to be on the pitch with my new teammates and compete with the best. And of course, I’m looking forward to the fans and the stadium that everyone in Europe raves about.”"

Borussia Dortmund always considered Malen to be their top target to replace Jadon Sancho. Liverpool were also interested in signing the versatile forward, but his preference was always to join BVB. Negotiations with PSV and Mino Raiola proved to be complicated, but ultimately an agreement was reached.

Malen is coming off an excellent season with PSV Eindhoven. He scored 27 goals and provided 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions for the Dutch side last season. He is now on his way to Borussia Dortmund, where he will bolster an attack that already features the likes of Erling Haaland, Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, Thorgan Hazard, Youssoufa Moukoko and Gio Reyna.

"Sebastian Kehl said: “Donyell impressed us with his performances at PSV. He can be used in different systems, be it up front as a lone striker, as one of two strikers or on the wings. The BVB fans can look forward to watching Donyell.”"

Malen is primarily a striker, but can also play on either wing. His versatility will allow Marco Rose to use a variety of different formations. The Borussia Dortmund head coach has hinted that he may look to use a two striker formation this season.
