“I told him to give me a lot of assists”: Erling Haaland looking forward to Donyell Malen partnership

Erling Haaland is looking forward to playing with new Borussia Dortmund signing Donyell Malen, and is hoping that the Dutchman will provide him a lot of assists.

Even though Donyell Malen’s transfer from PSV Eindhoven to Borussia Dortmund has not yet been made official, the 22 year old has already started training with his new teammates. Erling Haaland was asked about Malen’s arrival on Tuesday, and said that he hopes that they will play together in the BVB attack.

"“I spoke with him a little bit. I think he’s looking forward to playing in front of the BVB fans and hopefully playing together with me. I told him to give me a lot of assists, otherwise I’ll get mad at him (laughs). I hope we will play together in the offense.”“He’s here to make a difference. He has to bring a positive energy and deliver from the first minute because BVB is a big club and you have to deliver.”"

Malen was used as a striker by PSV Eindhoven last season, but he is also capable of playing out wide. Marco Rose has already said on numerous occasions that he may look to play with a two striker formation this season. And it will no doubt be exciting to see how Malen and Haaland link up with each other on the pitch.

Malen is joining Borussia Dortmund on a five year contract for a fee of 30 million euros. But there are still some details to be sorted between PSV and his agent before the transfer can be made official.

Erling Haaland: I have to develop even more

Haaland was also asked about his goals for the season and said that he wants to improve his game further and score a lot more goals. He also added that Borussia Dortmund have to be more consistent on the pitch.

"“For me, I have to develop even more. And we have to become more of a stable team. We have to win more games and become better as a team. I believe in Marco Rose. If you watch how we played in Salzburg. There were eleven players on the pitch who ran and fought for each other.”"

Haaland scored 41 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions and also helped the Black and Yellows win the DFB-Pokal last season. He will be aiming to build on that this season and lead Borussia Dortmund’s charge for the Bundesliga title.
