Reinier and Brazil are through to the semi-finals of the Olympic Games after earning a narrow 1-0 win over Egypt in the quarter-finals.

On-loan Borussia Dortmund forward Reinier Jesus started on the bench as Brazil took on Egypt in the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games at the Saitama Stadium on Saturday. The defending Olympic champions took the lead in the 37th minute through Matheus Cunha. The Hertha Berlin forward got on the end of Richarlison’s low cross before finding the bottom corner with a lovely low strike.

Brazil had a couple of good chances to double their lead, but the Egypt defence stood firm to keep the scoreline at 1-0. Egypt had a few chances of their own, and nearly got back on level terms late on. But Brazil held on to claim the win and qualify for the semi-finals.

Reinier came on in the 65th minute and helped Brazil see out the win. The 19 year old showed a few glimpses of his quality, but he wasn’t able to make much of an impact as Brazil looked to grind out the result.

Reinier has one assist to his name in the tournament so far, which came in Brazil’s group stage game against Saudi Arabia.
