Roman Bürki is free to leave Borussia Dortmund this summer. And La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing him.

Having already signed Gregor Kobel as the club’s new number one goalkeeper, Borussia Dortmund are keen to offload Roman Bürki this summer. The Swiss shot stopper has been linked with a number of clubs in recent weeks, but a move hasn’t materialised so far for one reason or the other.

Atletico Madrid are the latest club to show an interest in signing Bürki. This is being reported by Diario AS, who add that the Spanish champions have already established contacts with the 30 year old. Talks are only at an exploratory stage at the moment, and a lot also depends on whether Atletico’s current second choice goalkeeper Ivo Grbić leaves or not. LOSC Lille are said to be interested in signing Grbić.

Bürki, who has two years left on his contract, is free to leave Borussia Dortmund for a cut price fee of around five million euros.

Bürki is coming off a disappointing season that saw him lose his place as first-choice goalkeeper to Marwin Hitz. He was limited to just 24 appearances across all competitions for the Black and Yellows last season.

The BVB bosses moved quickly to sign Gregor Kobel from VfB Stuttgart this summer, which means that Bürki is third in the pecking order going into the new season.

Bürki will not be first-choice if he joins Atletico Madrid either. Jan Oblak is the club’s undisputed number one, having established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
