Players to Watch
Erling Haaland will be looking to hit the ground running with a goal in the opening game of the season. The Norwegian international found the net 41 times for Borussia Dortmund last season. And he will have his sights set on hitting that mark once again this season.
Donyell Malen looks set to make his Borussia Dortmund debut on Saturday following his transfer from PSV Eindhoven. It will be interesting to see what role the 22 year old plays, and whether he starts or comes off the bench. But he will certainly be aiming to get his BVB career off to a good start with a strong performance on his debut.
SV Wehen Wiesbaden have a few players who could cause problems to the Borussia Dortmund defence. Summer signing Thijmen Goppel can be a threat on the wing, and BVB will have to be wary of him.
Previous Meeting: SV Wehen Wiesbaden 0-1 Borussia Dortmund
These two sides have met only once in their history. And that meeting came all the way back in 2000. It was Borussia Dortmund who came out on top on that occasion, winning 1-0 after extra time.
Heiko Herrlich scored the only goal of the game in the 92nd minute to give Matthias Sammer’s side a narrow win over SV Wehen Wiesbaden in the second round of the 2000/01 DFB-Pokal. Borussia Dortmund will certainly be hoping for a much more comfortable victory this time around.
