Reinier and Brazil have won the gold medal in the Men’s Olympic football tournament after earning a 2-1 win over Spain in the final.

Reinier and Brazil have been crowned the Olympic champions in the men’s football tournament. The Selecao earned a narrow 2-1 win over Spain in what was a thrilling final. Zenit Saint Petersburg forward Malcom scored the winner in the second half of extra time, helping Brazil successfully defend the gold medal they won at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

It was a game of fine margins right from the off as both countries looked to win the Olympic gold medal for the second time in their history. On-loan Borussia Dortmund forward Reinier started on the bench once again for Brazil.

The game got off to a lively start as both teams created decent openings in the first half. Brazil had a golden chance to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 37th minute. But Richarlison sent his spot-kick over the bar.

Brazil finally got their goal in the first half stoppage time, as Hertha Berlin’s Matheus Cunha took advantage of some poor defending from Spain to slot home the opener from 12 yards out.

Spain took a while to get going once again, but they got back on level terms at the hour mark. Mikel Oyarzabal found the back of the net with a gorgeous first-time effort after getting on the end of Carlos Soler’s cross. Spain were denied by the woodwork twice in the final five minutes of normal time.

So the game went into extra-time, and Brazil won the Olympic gold medal thanks to Malcom’s 108th minute winner which came at the end of a blistering counter-attack.
