Hans-Joachim Watzke has backed Borussia Dortmund head coach Marco Rose to enjoy a successful career at the club.
Hans-Joachim Watzke heaped praise on Marco Rose during Monday’s annual press conference. The Borussia Dortmund CEO said that Rose fits the club like a glove, and gave him his backing ahead of the start of the new Bundesliga season.
"“We have a very good feeling about Marco Rose and his team. Marco fits Borussia Dortmund like a glove. He has a clear concept, a clear approach for the team. I have great confidence that we are very well staffed in this position. That’s why we’re going into this season with cautious optimism.”"
Marco Rose, who joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer, enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 win over SV Wehen Wiesbaden in first round of the DFB-Pokal last weekend. He will be aiming to get the three points on his Bundesliga debut this weekend, as the Black and Yellows go up against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Watzke also announced during the press conference that Borussia Dortmund suffered a loss of 72.8 million euros over the course of the previous financial year. But he added that despite the financial losses caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the club’s financial situation is very strong at the moment. This is the result of cautious financial approach taken by the club over the last few years.
Watzke also revealed that Borussia Dortmund will not be making any further new signings this summer unless players from the current first-team squad are sold first. Thomas Delaney, Roman Bürki, Nico Schulz and Marius Wolf are among the players who could still leave BVB this summer. But Michael Zorc said on Sunday that they haven’t received any enquiries worth considering yet.
Borussia Dortmund have made four signings so far this summer, bringing in Donyell Malen, Gregor Kobel, Soumaila Coulibaly and Abdoulaye Kamara.
